Public Comment Letter in Support of SB 1089, SB 1090, and SB 1091

Street Democracy's comment letter to the Michigan Senate Committee on Civil Rights, Judiciary, and Public Safety in support of SB 1089, SB 1090, and SB 1091, which would establish one statewide indigency standard and require mandatory waiver of court costs and fees for indigent defendants.

Submitted alongside the letter: testimony from our client Natalie Jackson describing what unpayable court debt cost her — testimony compelling enough that an opposing witness in the same hearing had to acknowledge the current system's pitfalls.
